Sustainable treatment for the ballast bed

Globally proven ballast cleaning in a new, modular design

  • The global standard in ballast cleaning – for use on plain-line tracks, can be expanded for turnouts as well
  • Also suitable for lines with low axle loads (C2)
  • Excavates material efficiently using a powerful excavating chain guided through the cutter bar
  • Exceptional cleaning quality thanks to triple-deck ballast screening
  • Optional ballasting with integrated stabilizing
  • Optional spoil loading in the track under repair
  • Optional supply of new ballast in the track under repair
  • Design in accordance with EN standards

Machines in the Plasser ScreenLiner 3100 series are equipped with state-of-the-art measuring and control systems.
They produce a consistently high working output, create a precise cut of the formation, and effectively recover reusable ballast. This ensures the prerequisite for a ballast bed with reliable functionality: wheel loads are transferred uniformly to the subsoil and thus force peaks are absorbed.

Series: Plasser ScreenLiner 3100

Consistently high working output thanks to perfectly compatible assemblies – machines in the Plasser ScreenLiner 3100 series feature a compact design. Their aim is to provide a high working output and high quality with sufficient reserve drive power and stability, both in terms of traction and work units. The machine can be used both in short track possessions as well as in long-term operations: the result remains equally excellent in both cases.

The concept behind the Plasser ScreenLiner 3100 series is one in which different application scenarios and working modes are possible:

  • Full excavation with placement of new ballast: All of the excavated ballast is untreated when taken away. It is replaced with new ballast during excavation when the machine features this equipment option.
  • Ballast cleaning: All of the material is processed in the screening unit.

Positioned under the track panel, the excavating chain produces a precise cut of the formation.

The lifting and slewing unit keeps the track panel in the desired position.

The screening unit separates high-quality ballast from fines.

In many places where replacing the ballast bed used to be necessary, nowadays the ballast can be reprocessed in a track-bound ballast cleaning machine.

Optional equipment: Dynamic track stabilization

Turnout cleaning without dismantling the turnout thanks to widening of the excavating unit

Optional equipment: Supply of new ballast

Optional equipment: Cutter bar transport device with assembly aid

Optional equipment: Dust-suppression system

Optional equipment: Camera systems for monitoring

Optional equipment: Sleeper crib excavator

Optional equipment: Workshop and crew cab

Track-bound technologies are more than 30% greener

With numerous inventions and over 300 patents granted, trust the technology of the experts.

Series: Plasser ScreenLiner 3100

Ballast bed cleaning as a maintenance measure helps infrastructure managers all over the world to achieve the desired service life of a track. Cleaned ballast recovers most of its original characteristics and ensures a safe and economically efficient operation of services. A variety of innovative equipment options are available to protect the environment, workers, and equipment.

Cost-efficient ballast cleaning of the highest quality

Series: Plasser ScreenLiner 3100

Efficient ballast cleaning is key to the sustainable use of ballast, a valuable resource, and the Plasser ScreenLiner 3100 series is an internationally proven tool.

Today, the machine concept is THE global standard in track-bound ballast cleaning. With the Plasser ScreenLiner 3100 series, it is proven that all relevant parameters improve significantly with a long-lasting effect.

The machine can be used both in short track possessions as well as in long-term operations: the result remains equally excellent in both cases.

Save resources and reduce costs:
The better the quality of the screened material, the less frequently the ballast bed will have to be cleaned or tamped in future. Therefore, the quality of screening determines the cost efficiency of a ballast cleaning machine and of the technology as a whole.

Eco-friendliness and cost efficiency go hand in hand in the long term

Series: Plasser ScreenLiner 3100

Sustainability is a crucial part of ballast cleaning. Sustainability also means handling resources responsibly during machine production and using environmentally friendly machine fluids economically. Sustainable technologies are a part of highly efficient ballast cleaning. For example, ballast is reprocessed directly in the machine, material logistics in the track under repair reduces the number of lorry runs, track possessions are shorter, there is less noise for lineside residents and personnel, and the exhaust emissions at worksites decrease.

Our aim and our vision is to contribute to the long-term success of the railway system through innovative products and services.
