Noise reduction for urban rails

Renewing the quality of the rail surface significantly reduces noise emissions caused by rolling noise. Our service for your infrastructure: longitudinal corrugation of the rails appears as a wave-like deformation of the surface. The usual causes are operational profile faults due to dynamic wheel-rail contact. In addition to high noise levels, consequential damage can occur and maintenance costs for the track and vehicles increase.

Recording the longitudinal rail profile

Before treatment, the ROBEL ROSPECT is used to determine the condition of the rails in accordance with DIN EN 13231. After grinding the rails, the longitudinal profile is recorded again to document the work result. The ROSPECT also measures track geometry parameters and the groove depth of grooved rails. This allows the degree of fouling and the need for cleaning to be detected.

Acoustic grinding and preventive grinding

The Plasser ATMO uses a combined grinding method: oscillating grinding and the grinding stone method. This proven technology reduces the noise level of passing vehicles by up to 8 dB(A). In addition, rail surfaces with initially good quality are optimized.

Grinding demonstrably improves quality

Noise mainly causes wave-like deformations of the rail surface and damaged areas. The comparison of measuring results before and after grinding with the Plasser ATMO shows improvements of 30% to 40%. Even where the longitudinal waviness had previously been considerably exceeded, it was possible to adjust it to the tolerance range with just a few passes.
