Challenging maintenance of the over 115-year-old Mariazell railway
The single-track, electrified line of the Mariazell railway is already over 115 years old and poses particular challenges for maintenance due to the narrow track gauge of 760 mm and the tight structure gauge.
High-performance maintenance vehicles for Lower Austria Railways
The plans to introduce a half-hourly service are to be implemented by the end of 2024 and will further increase the requirements for vehicles used for continuous maintenance and in the event of disruptions. To meet these challenges, Lower Austria Railways opted for a motor tower car and a track motor vehicle by Plasser & Theurer.
Designed to make the Mariazell railway fit for purpose
Despite the narrow gauge and the exceptionally low and above all narrow structure gauge, the machines carry a large range of equipment. Thanks to the variety of equipment on the vehicles, the infrastructure managers can carry out almost all of the work along the line themselves. Both vehicles have driving control stations in both directions of travel and can reach their destination quickly and autonomously at a top speed of 80 km/h in self-propelled mode. During working travel on construction sites, it is possible to control the machine both from the cab and via a remote control.
Motor tower car for work on the overhead contact line
The MTW 100.307 motor tower car is a specialist for installing and maintaining overhead contact line systems. The vehicle is equipped with a railway crane on one end. A personnel basket and tools for loading and assembly can be attached to it. The crane has a large operating radius and enables work up to the top of the mast. The cab, from which the crane is controlled, offers a protected working area and has a rotating design, which ensures optimum visibility at all times. Control is also possible from outside the cab via a radio remote control. A freely moving elevating work platform is positioned at the centre of the vehicle. This ensures a safe working position and allows easy access to all relevant overhead contact line components.
Multifunctional track motor vehicle for versatile tasks
The OBW 100.308 is optimally equipped for work on and around the superstructure. In summer, it is equipped with tools for clearing vegetation, while in winter it ensures safe train operations with its snow cutter and ploughing unit. It has four seats, a loading bed, and a multi-purpose railway crane with high lifting moment. This makes it easy to transport crew, materials, and tools to the site.
