Work cabin with excellent view onto the work area

The newly designed RM 85-750 ballast cleaning machine follows on the tracks of the successful RM 80 series. In its first construction projects, the machine has proven that it is perfectly prepared for this construction season.

Compared to the RM 80 series, the major benefit of the new machine model is the position of the work units on two separated vehicle parts. Thanks to its lowered axle loads, the machine is approved for line category C2. On these lines, the maximum permissible axle load is 20 t. The design solution for the drive engine - located on the front wagon - reduces the noise emitted in the working area and the work cabin. This makes it easier for the staff to communicate and improves their work situation.

Operating staff highly satisfied

Put into operation in the autumn of 2016, the machine has been running smoothly from the very first day, proving our wide experience in the construction of ballast cleaning machines. After a short calibration phase, the machine works as if it had been in operation for many years: producing a consistently high output and uniformly high working quality under varied conditions. The machine has proven its efficiency and cost-effectiveness as early as during the first construction projects. Put into operation on 22nd September 2016, the new machine has maintained 9 km of track on 13 work sites. On about 6,700 m, it cleaned the ballast. On additional 2,300 m, it carried out a total excavation of the ballast bed.

Second machine put into operation in 2016

Named RM 80-750, the first machine of this model was successfully operated by Franz Plasser Vermietung von Bahnbaumaschinen Gesellschaft m.b.H. in Purkersdorf for one year. Now it is operated by Swietelsky Baugesellschaft m.b.H. In the summer of 2016, the second machine from this new series was also put into service in Purkersdorf. Since then, it has been operated on several work sites.

Details improved, weight reduced

Some details of the new machine were redesigned. This has made it possible to reduce the machine's weight by approx. 3 t. Details of the program controller and particularly the hydraulic system were improved. The excavating chain (chain drive gear box) is now fitted with a two-speed gear box and a continuously adjustable drive pump (0 to 100 %). Therefore, the excavation can be adjusted more precisely and there is more power available. The plough for new ballast is secured using pneumatic hooks.

Ballast bed cleaning with high output and high quality

The fully hydraulically powered RM 85-750 is a ballast cleaning machine for operation on tracks and turnouts. The machine is built in articulated design and consists of an excavating machine coupled to a propulsion unit. Six of its eight axles (four two-axled bogies) are powered hydrostatically during transfer travel and work travel.

The drive engine and the spoil conveyor belts are mounted on the front part of the machine. The excavating chain, the screening unit, the lifting and lining unit, and the work cabin are located in the rear part. The RM 85-750 also enables placing new ballast using material conveyor and hopper units located at the rear end of the machine. To produce a perfectly straight formation, all ballast cleaning machines made in our works are equipped with a transverse chain guide of the excavating chain. It can be set exactly to the desired excavating depth and gradient.

The triple-deck screening unit of the RM 85-750 has been optimised with regard to screen angle, mesh size and vibration. It has also been equipped with large-stone separation and achieves excellent results. The automatic superelevation compensation prevents one-sided distribution of the material on the screen surfaces.

The machine is operated ergonomically using Plasser Intelligent Control 2.0. (P-IC 2.0). This machine control system combines control functions and diagnostics functions in clearly laid out touch panels. Functions that are needed constantly are operated via the usual desk and its switches, pushbuttons, potentiometers, etc.
