The best connection

The welding robot with certified quality in container design

Exchange of 1,200 defective welded joints using the
APT 1500 RC

The main line of the Georgian Railway is an important link between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea. Moreover, this West-East connection provides a link for freight traffic and passenger traffic between Europe and Asia.

To repair 1,200 defective welded joints on a track section of 25 km, a welding machine in container design, type APT 1500 RC, was delivered to the Georgian Railway in June 2014.

The high manufacturing quality and the unique advantages of our welding robot such as automatic centring of running edges, fully automatic work sequence, 1,000 Hz technology, closure welding and certification as per EN14587-2 convinced the customer of our product.

The welding head of the APT 1500 RC and all its components – drive engine, generator and electronic controls – are mounted on a standard container (30 ft or 9,125 mm). In Georgia, a flat-bed trailer is used as a carrier vehicle for the machine. Alternatively, the container can be transported to the work site using a semi-trailer truck.

The welding robot enables most of the works to be performed fully automatically. There is no need to manually align the rail ends, which often is a difficult task, as auxiliary clamps integrated in the welding head lift and automatically align the rails. Another special feature of the newly developed welding head are the clamping jaws: thanks to its design it is no longer necessary to grind off rolling marks at the rail web. As a result, the time needed for preparation is reduced significantly.

The 1,000 Hz technology enables a particularly high welding quality to be reached. Using this technology, alternating current is rectified with a frequency of 1,000 Hz. The minimum residual ripple of the welding current enables a rail connection with optimum metallurgical qualities to be obtained.

Range of application of the APT 1500 RC

  • Welding running rails
  • Closure welding
  • Welding pre-deposited rails
  • Assistance in stationary plants
  • Welding in rail depots
