Nine machines from the E³ series have already been put into operation. Machines of the E³ series can be fully integrated into site management. They can be operated together with all existing Plasser & Theurer track maintenance machines. The dimensions of a universal tamping machine from the 09-4x4 series are the same as on machines with a conventional drive system.

Hence, the integration of this machine model has already become reality.

There is no doubt about the ecological and economic benefits the machines offer. This is a significant contribution towards the implementation of the EU’s climate targets.

Since November 2016, Krebs Gleisbau has operated the Unimat 09-32/4S Dynamic E³ universal tamping machine in Switzerland. We obtained approvals for the operation of the E³ technology from Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), German Railway (DB) and the Swiss Federal Office for Transport (BAV).

The two E³ machines that are currently being produced are designed for both AC and DC networks.

More than tamping machines: In addition to the positive features already mentioned, we also aimed to use the benefits of the E³ technology for other machine models.

During work, the HTW 100 E³ motor tower car is powered by batteries, supplying energy to both the hydraulic power packs for the work units and the electrical drive unit.

Today, E³ machines are used for the following tasks:

  • Tamping
  • Ballast management
  • Installation and maintenance of overhead lines
