Highlights

  • High cost efficiency thanks to a working output of up to 2,200 m/h
  • Flexibility thanks to combination options with a 2- or 3-sleeper tamping unit
  • Tamp and stabilize in one pass with integrated track stabilization on the power wagon (optional)
  • Additional space for workshop and crew areas
  • Fit for the future with ETCS integration
  • High flexibility in maintenance planning and transfer travel thanks to line category C2 (axle load ≤ 20 t)
  • The world’s leading tamping technology - tested under various operating conditions on every continent
  • The frame is designed to maintain the heaviest types of superstructure (heavy haul lines)

Available tamping units

3X tamping unit

When time is of the essence
The core element of the Plasser Express is its 3-sleeper tamping units. They allow the machine to tamp three sleepers simultaneously during one single tamping process. Whether it’s for track maintenance or tamping new track: compared to the continuous 2-sleeper tamping machine, it has an output increase of 30 to 40%. And that’s not its maximum performance, but rather, an average value. 3-sleeper tamping technology was introduced for the first time in 1996. Ever since, the concept has been used around the world and continues to live up to its reputation. Globally, the name 09-3X is synonymous with simplified worksite logistics, optimal utilization of track possessions as well as reduced costs for administration and staff.

2X/SD tamping unit

The continuous classic for 2-sleeper tamping
Economical and flexible: in 2-sleeper mode, track possessions can be utilized efficiently and high working outputs achieved In 1-sleeper mode, the tamping process can be flexibly adapted to the conditions on site; the tamping unit can also be used with irregular sleeper spacing. If the ballast bed is hardened, the 32 rigid tamping tines can penetrate at staggered intervals in 2-sleeper mode. This tamping unit is characterized by low wear and low life cycle costs.

Fit for the future with ETCS

The 09-X series serves as the basis for continuing development of the Plasser Express machine series. It was specifically designed for the strict normative requirements of the European market. Equipped with the European ETCS train protection system, the machines fulfil the specifications of the TSI. Thanks to the new P-IC machine control system, they also meet the requirements of the Cyber Resilience Act and offer heightened protection against cyberattacks.

With integrated dynamic track stabilization as a functional add-on

  • Tamping and stabilizing in one pass
  • Creates a high-quality, homogeneously compacted ballast bed
  • Elimination or significant reduction of low-speed sections
  • High track position durability and track distortion resistance
  • 30% longer maintenance cycles
  • 10% increase in the service life of the ballast bed
