The new rotation speed modulation makes it possible to modulate the rotation speed of tamping units during the individual work phases.
The system increases the rotation speed when penetrating the ballast bed. As a result, the tamping tines penetrate highly compacted ballast beds more easily. At the same time, wear is demonstrably reduced.
For squeezing, we continue to use the optimal frequency of 35 Hz. When the tamping unit is raised, idle speed is reduced. All these modulations reduce wear.
The rotation speed modulation reduces the fuel consumption by up to 10 %.
Moreover, the new rotation speed modulation reduces the noise emitted. At a distance of 7.5 m, a noise reduction of 4 dBA is reached.
The later installation of the new rotation speed modulation for tamping units depends on the performance of the engine and the transmission. It requires a separate check for every machine. The fixed price for the upgrade including the installation depends on the number of tamping unit drives.
