Manufacture of parts

CNC machine tools of the latest generation - the most up-to-date machines on the world market - are used for turning, milling and grinding. The quality assurance is fully integrated in the production process.

A large portion of the parts used in the work units, hydraulic elements or bogies (around 90 % of the drawing-bound parts) is manufactured in-house by Plasser & Theurer. The most up-to-date CNC machine tools and flexible production groups are in use. These turning or milling machines work according to pre-programmed work sequences using the most modern tools and assure in repeatable mode the high quality which is demanded of the components.

In computer-controlled tooling centres, which comply with the latest standard of technology, the parts are tooled in an exchange process which means, while one part is being machined, the next part can be placed in position. These automatic machines work precisely, quickly and cost-efficiently.

Programming and adjustment of the machine tools, to assure smooth functioning, efficient production and the required qualities, is carried out by the specialists of the work preparation department. A continuous data interchange takes place from the programming desk through the pre-setting of the tools directly to the machine.

Quality controls are performed continuously during the entire production, taking the most varied requirements of the individual railway administrations into account.

Plasser & Theurer's endeavour to fulfil all special requirements of the customer, is also the case in the demands on the machine tools. Special machines are needed to be able to guarantee the manufacture of special parts in consistent quality. A new horizontal boring mill with quill, one of the most modern machines on the world market, has just been placed in operation with a range of other tooling centres.

The 110 CNC machines in total, operating for Plasser & Theurer, also contain automatic machines for oxygen cutting or for gear-cutting.
